The Advisory Board of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) Team of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) held its annual meeting on February 5-6 in Geneva, Switzerland where Hungary was welcomed as a new member.
The meeting, which also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of UNDAC, was also attended by Ms. Catherine Bragg, Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator and Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations. The preconditions for becoming a member were met through successful cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management.
Hungary is now a member of a UN group of nearly 250 highly-skilled experts who are deployed at very short notice to countries struck by emergencies and who coordinate international humanitarian response activities in cooperation with the government concerned.
