No Hungarian COVID-19 Death Reported in the Past 24 Hours

No new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, which means that this Wednesday was the first day since early September last year without a single new victim of the pandemic in this country and the number of Hungarian fatalities related to the new coronavirus epidemic remains unchanged at 29,992 – a figure very high in international comparison per population size.

32 new cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of identified infected people to 808,160 in Hungary since the beginning of the epidemic, the government information portal said.

The number of cured persons is now 739,204, while the number of active infected persons has fallen to 38,964. 116 patients with coronavirus are hospitalized, 20 of them are on ventilators.

The total number of vaccinated persons on Wednesday was 5,493,609. So far, 4,958,805 people have received their second vaccination.

Unlike in other countries where restrictions or the easing of restrictions is tied to the number of COVID-19 infections or hospitalizations, for the Hungarian government, this determining factor is the number of inoculated people. The latest such number they say is 5.5 million – likely to be reached within a few days –, which will mean the end the mandatory use of masks indoors and on public transport as well as easier access in hotels, restaurants, beaches and spas.
