Hungary's military allies have evacuated 26 Hungarian citizens from Kabul to the Uzbekh capital, Tashkent, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) informed the state news agency MTI in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
"In coordination with the Hungarian side, our military allies have evacuated by air 26 Hungarian citizens stranded in Kabul," the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary at the MFAT, said at a press conference that an independent Hungarian rescue mission would be sent to Kabul.
He also said that in addition to Hungarian citizens, the Hungarian state wants to help Afghans and their families who assited Hungarians in the Asian country, for example as interpreters.
The State Secretary pointed out that aircraft departing from the airport in Pápa, W Hungary, are carrying out tasks related to Afghanistan, but that they are under NATO command, thus, no further information can be given.
