95-year-old Hungarian swimmer wins world title

95-year-old Hungarian swimmer Béla Bánki Horváth took his second world title at the FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia this Thursday by winning the men's 50-meter freestyle event in his age division. Two days earlier, he won the 200-meter backstroke with a new world record.

The Hungarian senior swimming team has won ten medals at the Kazan world championships. so far: three gold, four silver and three bronze. The third win for Hungary was produced by József Csikány who came in first in the men's 200-meter backstroke event in the 70-74 years age division.

Béla Bánki Horváth, born in 1920 and thus the maturest athlete at the 16th FINA World Masters Championships. swims 800 meters every second day. He says the secret to his perfect physical condition is "good nutrition, healthy lifestyle and undoubtedly regular sport activities."

It was 23 years ago that he first competed at these Championships and he has won 14 gold medals over this time.
