In the last three days - from Friday to Sunday - 14,655 new cases of coronavirus have been identified, according to the epidemiological information page. This time, 167 new deaths were reported, including bringing the total number of victims to 39,947.

According to the site, the number of people currently recovered is 1,145,770, while the number of people actively infected has risen to 111,895. There are 2,931 patients with coronavirus in hospital, 281 of whom require mechanical ventilation.

At the previous data release on Friday (January 7), 6,524 new infections were reported. This was 8,131 fewer new cases than the three days ago. The number of deaths then was 101, 66 fewer than now. At that time, 3,070 patients were treated in hospital, 139 fewer than in the new release. On Friday, 291 patients were still on mechanical ventilation, now 10 fewer.

The number of infected people now reported shows a big jump compared to the three-day release a week earlier, when 5,865 new cases were reported and 248 deaths. At that time, 3,313 patients were hospitalized and 318 people were on ventilators.

The site again drew attention to the fact that the omicron variant of the virus is also spreading in Hungary. This makes vaccination very important, the authorities point out.
