COVID-19: Number of Deaths Surpasses 40,000 in Hungary

69, mostly elderly, chronic patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of new coronavirus infection related deaths in Hungary to 40,016. The number of cured cases rose to 1,147,818 and the number of active infected cases to 113,160.

3,382 new infections have been confirmed, bringing the total number of identified infections to 1,300,994 since the beginning of the epidemic, according to the government website koronavirus.gov.hu.

2,932 patients with coronavirus are in hospital, 274 of whom are on ventilators.

The total number of vaccinated is 6,294,707, of whom 6,033,675 have already received the second vaccination and 3,292,175 have already received the confirmatory third vaccination.

Due to the high number of fatalities, which is one of the highest figure in the world per 100,000 inhabitants, the opposition parties have issued a joint statement calling on the government to expand testing capacity and provide enough specialists in hospitals.
