Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was the main speaker of the rally organized on the national holida yof October 23 to show support for his government. At the same time, his predecessor, Gordon Bajnai spoke to a crowd that would like to see Orbán ousted.

The Hungarian government accepts the rules of a European cooperation, but rejects any "refined ways of foreign control" over the country, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at an official celebration of the anniversary of Hungary's 1956 revolution.

Hungary accepts the moral standards or European civilisation, but rejects double standards, the prime minister said, adding that no institution of the European Union is to "treat Hungarians without respect".

Former prime minister Gordon Bajnai spoke at the gathering of Milla, a group that has grown out of an online community initiative that would like to see the reinstatement of the legal state following the over-two-year rule of the Orbán government and a more transparent management of affairs than in the past 20 years in Hungary.

He criticized the social and economic policies of the Orbán government that he said offer no solution to the country's problems, favor the higher and upper middle classes and neglect about 40% of the population. He called for solidarity and offered his organization 'Homeland and Progress' to join forces with other pro-democracy movements in Hungary to defeat Viktor Orbán at the elections due in 2014.
