On Friday, 6,729 people crossed the Ukrainian-Hungarian border into Hungary, while 4,986 of those entering the Romanian-Hungarian border said they had come from Ukraine, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) told the state news agency MTI on Saturday.

Of those who entered, the police issued to 248 people temporary residence permits valid for 30 days. They will have to visit the office of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of their place of residence to obtain the permanent documents, they said.

On Friday, 248 people, including 108 children, arrived in Budapest by train to escape the war in Ukraine, the ORFK said.

The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) said on Saturday on police.hu that it was assisting refugees arriving by train from Ukraine with the Standby Police and police patrol training participants. The Budapest Citizens' Guard Association will also support them in their tasks.

The police officers are in constant contact with the Directorate General for Disaster Management, the National Directorate General for Aliens, the Hungarian State Railways, the Budapest Transport Center, the Budapest Municipal Police Directorate, the Government Office of Budapest and the staff of aid organizations, the statement said.
