Internationally renowned research biologist Katalin Karikó, the Hungarian biochemist who played a significant role in developing the medical technology of mRNA-based vaccines with her discoveries, had been chosen as a recipient of an honorary doctorate by Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest.
The awarding ceremony, followed by a scientific symposium honoring Katalin Karikó at the Lágymányosi Campus, took place on July 1, 2022.
"Ignorance breeds fear, so the main point of popularity is to transmit knowledge in a language that people can understand." This was the message of Katalin Karikó as she gave a lecture to a full house. She also talked about her scientific career, her family and how she lives with the fact that she is world famous.
