While in recent weeks, there had been reporting of a steep rise in the number of infections, last week's figures show the epidemic is slowing down again.
Aggregated data published on the related government website koronavirus.gov.hu, 18,078 new infections have been confirmed as opposed to 21,840 new infections in the previous week; 80 patients have died compared to 96 people a week before.
The number of active infections (49,526) is actually seven and a half thousand more than last week, but the number of coronavirus patients hospitalized (1,501) is down by 92, while 22 of these 1,501 patients are on ventilators – three more than a week ago.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of persons identified as infected by the new coronavirus has risen to 2,005,399 and the number of deaths to 46,966.
The total number of vaccinated persons in this country was 6,414,563, of whom 6,201,022 were on their second vaccination, 3,890,728 on their third and 324,187 on their fourth.
