8,867 people entered Hungary on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border on Saturday, while 11,344 of those crossing the Romanian-Hungarian border said they had come from Ukraine, the Hungarian National Police Headquarters (ORFK) told the state news agency MTI on Sunday.

Of those who entered, police issued 470 people with temporary residence permits valid for 30 days. They will have to visit the office of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing of their place of residence to obtain their permanent documents, they said.

420 people, including 139 children, arrived in Budapest by train, fleeing the war in Ukraine, ORFK said.

The Budapest Police Headquarters said on police.hu that it is assisting refugees arriving by train from Ukraine together with the Riot Police. The Budapest Civil Guard Association is also providing support in this task.

They are in constant contact with the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing, the Hungarian State Railways, the Budapest Transport Center, the Budapest Municipal Police Directorate, the Government Office of Budapest and the staff of aid organizations, the statement said.
