The Taipei Representative Office in Hungary invited guests to the Pest Vigadó event venue in the downtown area of the Hungarian capital to celebrate the 111th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) this Wednesday evening.

In his speech, the Representative of Taiwan to Hungary, Ambassador Shih-Chung Liu spoke about the importance of the people of Taiwan and Hungary getting to know each others’ culture and gastronomy – these are also helped by cultural exchanges.

He stressed that “Taiwan has helped and Taiwan will help,” referring to the humanitarian help provided by his country to the Hungarian government and to the capital, Budapest to support Ukrainian refugees. He also mentioned how warmly Hungarian Parliament’s delegation was welcomed in Taiwan.

Several Taiwanese products – from bicycles to laptops – representing Taiwanese technology ‘Made in Hungary’ were displayed during the reception for the guests to get to know them. Technological cooperation and the flow of Taiwanese capital are among the factors that show that Taiwan is a reliable and trustworthy partner of Hungary, he pointed out.

At the end of his speech, Ambassador Liu sang ‘Gyöngyhajú lány’ (Pearl haired girl), a song by the legendary Hungarian rock group Omega, in order to honor Taiwanese-Hungarian friendship.
