According to the latest data published by Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH), the Hungarian natural gas storage capacity was 5.44 billion cubic meters on November 15, which is 86.02% of the total capacity.
It means that on that day, there was 19% more gas in storage than a year ago.
According to the timetable set by the European Union's gas storage regulation, Hungary was obliged to store at least 35% of its five-year average consumption, that is 3.65 billion cubic meters, by November 1.
By November 15, Hungary had exceeded the regulation's target by 1.79 billion cubic meters, or almost 50%, thanks to the higher volume of storage, which ensures maximum security of supply, MEKH said.
The annual consumption rate on November 15 was 54.48%, 26.2% higher than the average rate for European gas storage.
The 5.44 billion cubic meters of natural gas in storage exceeds the annual consumption of the population (137%).
