Family-owned Civita Group Plc. has inaugurated a plant for the production of gluten-free pasta, edible plates and cups, owned by its subsidiary, Agri-Corn Ltd., in Monostorpályi, NE Hungary.

The company is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of maize products, processing 40,000 tons of GMO-free maize per year and providing 200 families with stable employment for many years. The plant produces more than 50% of its products for export.

The current investment of HUF 2.5 billion, including HUF one billion of EU and government support, will triple their annual pasta production capacity to 150 tons of corn oil. New biodegradable edible cups and plates will help reduce the environmental impact. The company's owners intend to raise funds through a stock market listing.

Their maize-based products, maize oil and dry pasta, are already exported to eleven European countries, and the production of edible cups and plates will allow them to replace 500 tons of plastic annually, he said.

Civita Group CEO, Gábor Vaszkó pointed out that Europe's largest maize pasta plant produces 20,000 tons of finished product a year. Last year, their turnover was HUF 5 billion, their profit reached HUF 800 million, and this year they are planning a 20% increase.
