The Museum of Applied Arts (IMM) is reopening its exhibition space on the City Park Alley, the György Ráth Villa, with exhibitions and family programs on Saturday.
It is a symbolic event that after the winter break, the György Ráth Villa, the former home of the first director general of the IMM, considered one of the masterpieces of Art Nouveau, will reopen to the public, the deputy state secretary for public collections and cultural development, Máté Vincze.
The gates of the villa near the City Park will open again, with exhibitions such as Our Art Nouveau and Minivarage - Image and Letter on Art Nouveau Ex libris, a craft workshop, guided tours in costume and time-travelling walks.
A special artefact, József Rippl-Rónai's famous tapestry, the 'Woman in Red Dress', was returned to the Art Nouveau dining room of the Ráth György villa this Thursday after a long rest, which was mandatory for reasons of artifact protection.
However, the tapestry, embroidered in 1898, will only be on show again for a few months, as it will soon be travelling to France for the Musée de Pont-Aven's Women at Work by/for the Nabis exhibition.
The Director General of the Museum of Applied Arts, Zoltán Cselovszki, said that although the main building of the institution is currently closed pending the start of the comprehensive reconstruction, the public can see the pieces of the collection in several places, including the Hungarian National Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts.
