The Aldi retail chain donated HUF 1.8 billion of food to the needy last year with the help of the Hungarian Food Bank Association.

According to a statement sent to MTI this Tuesday, Aldi Hungary has been cooperating with the Hungarian Food Bank Association since 2016, thanks to which food that is no longer commercially available but still suitable for human consumption reaches those in need through the association.

They said that in 2022, Aldi further increased the number of its stores participating in daily food rescue, so that in 2022, 133 stores, that is, about 82% of its Hungarian network delivered food still suitable for human consumption to the Food Bank every day.

Last year, the supermarket chain donated a total of 1,729 tons of food worth HUF 1.8 billion gross to the Food Bank, which is 9% higher than the amount donated in 2021, they said.

They added that the supermarket chain also supports the work of the Food Bank with individual donations in addition to the daily food rescue.

Before Easter, the company offered 113 pallets of Christmas sweets to the Hungarian Food Bank Association, which continuously distributed them to people in need across the country, they said.
