Magyar Telekom Increases its 5G Coverage to 60%

Magyar Telekom, the leading Hungarian telecommunications service provider, has announces that as the next phase in its mobile network modernization program, from June 1, 2023, it increases its population-based outdoor 5G coverage to 60%.

Magyar Telekom is continuing its multi-year mobile network modernization program this year, aiming to upgrade, maintain and improve service quality and increase capacity in line with the continuous growth in customers’ voice and data traffic demand, the company's statement says on the website of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

As part of the comprehensive program, the modernization of mobile base stations covers not only active and passive radio equipment but also the infrastructure needed to accommodate and to operate them. The replacement of this equipment with modern devices itself creates additional capacity, resulting in technological advantages that can be leveraged by modern equipment, more reliable service, and lower energy consumption.

The Company’s aim is to continue to meet the growing data needs of its customers at the highest standard, and therefore it further expands its 5G coverage in 2023 to make the latest generation of mobile technology available to more and more customers and therefore from June 1, 2023, increases its population-based outdoor 5G coverage to 60%. Parallel to the future progress of the modernization, Magyar Telekom intends to increase this ratio also further.

With the significant expansion of its 5G coverage, the Company makes 5G access automatically available to its customers between June 1 and August 31, 2023, thus allowing that almost 1 million customer who already has 5G capable device and mobile data service to experience the benefits of 5G.
