The MittelCinemaFest Italian Film Festival will take place in Budapest from November 4 to 12, with 12 recent Italian movies, including several festival winners, being screened at the Puskin and Tabán cinemas in the Hungarian capital.
The event, organized jointly by the Italian Cultural Institute of Budapest and Cinecittá, will screen contemporary Italian films in their original language with Hungarian subtitles, according to a statement sent to MTI by the organizers.
One of the most powerful films of the 21st Italian Film Festival is ‘Comandante’ (‘Commander’), directed by Edoardo De Angelis, which deals with a real-life World War II event.
‘La Stranezza’ (‘Strangeness’) tells the story of a moment in the life of Nobel Prize-winning Italian playwright Pirandello. The film's director, Roberto Ando, won this year's Italian Golden Globe Award for Best Director for the story. The film has also received four other David di Donatello Awards from the Italian Academy of Cinema, one of the most prestigious Italian film awards.
The screenings will include the drama ‘Rapito’ (‘Kidnapped’) – directed by 84-year-old Marco Bellocchio –, which won the Golden Globe for best film this year, and the animation ‘Invelle’ (‘Nowhere’), which won the Venice Film Festival this year and tells the story of three girls in three different periods. The program also includes Alice Rohrwacher's ‘La Chimera’ (‘The Chimera’), starring Josh O'Connor and Isabella Rossellini.
