Hungarian World Heritage Sites Added to Google Arts & Culture

World Heritage Sites in Hungary have been added to the Google Arts & Culture platform, where users can discover new places, attractions and works of art, as well as learn more about the world's most important historical events, Google's press office told MTI.

They recalled that the Google Arts & Culture initiative was launched to make the world's cultural treasures accessible to all in the online space, with the collaboration of cultural institutions and renowned artists.

They said that Hungarian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List are now also available at Google’s Arts & Culture website. For example, the Budapest Danube embankment, the Castle District and Andrássy Avenue have been added to the site. Celebrating its 150th birthday this year, the capital's Danube embankment and Castle District became a World Heritage site in 1987, and in 2002, Andrássy Avenue and its surroundings were added to the list, thanks to their architectural and cultural attractions.

Pécs and its Early Christian tombs have been added to the site. The Early Christian necropolis, founded by the Romans, was home to many historical events and monuments, including the system of tombs, which was granted World Heritage status in the year 2000 and which preserves the burial customs of the ancient Roman society, they added.

The site also includes the Pannonhalma Abbey, founded more than a thousand years ago and awarded World Heritage status in 1996, and Hollókő, where traditional buildings and features of past ages have been preserved almost intact and became a World Heritage site in 1987.

According to the announcement, the Google Arts & Culture platform allows users to view World Heritage sites in Mongolia, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Spain, in addition to those in Hungary.
