30 business leaders have had a conversation with the theme "Ecology and economy, two sides of the same coin" with Swiss explorer Bertrand Piccard at the MagNet Community House in Budapest. He is best known for being the first man to circumnavigate the Earth in an airplane he built, powered solely by solar energy.

He is currently leading the Solar Impulse Foundation to identify and recognize the over a thousand solutions that profitably protect the environment. By promoting clean technologies and efficient solutions that he considers ‘logical’ and ‘ecological’, he wants to raise awareness of the potential of climate change to encourage decision-makers around the world to adopt more ambitious environmental and energy policies.

Speaking at an exclusive event for business leaders, Piccard said that "we will get nowhere if we try to protect the environment without compromising people's comfort, mobility and economic development."

He identifies the over 1,000 profitable solutions in different areas such as water, energy, construction, mobility, industry and agriculture. He emphasizes both the economic profitability and technological credibility of these solutions, with the aim of raising awareness among political and economic decision-makers and of accelerating the transition towards a more efficient economy.

Business leaders also have a major role to play in accelerating the transition and driving systemic change. Bertrand Piccard encourages others to challenge common assumptions by focusing on solutions rather than problems, and to show how climate protection and adaptation can open up new industrial markets and new opportunities for economic development.
