The state-owned energy group MVM is significantly expanding its portfolio of solar power plants, according to a transaction closed on December 7, when its renewable energy subsidiary MVM Green Generation Ltd. acquires the 100 MWe solar power plant in Kaposvár, Hungary, one of the largest photovoltaic power plants in Hungary, built and owned by CMC, a member of the Genertec International Group, the company informed MTI on Friday.
According to the statement, with the acquisition of the Kaposvár solar power plant, the MVM group is making a major contribution to the implementation of its renewable energy strategy and the achievement of its decarbonization targets.
The solar system owned by MVM can produce an average of 150 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity per year, which can cover the annual electricity needs of more than 35,000 households, while reducing the country's carbon dioxide emissions by around 140,000 tons per year.
The MVM group's growing renewable generation capacity will make a major contribution to energy independence and the green transition, the statement said.
