According to a decision of the Minister of National Economy, 18 new logistics parks will be created in Hungary, the Ministry of National Economy said in a statement quoted by the financial news site portfolio.hu.
The Hungarian government has created the legal framework for logistics parks in 2023, and the new certification system aims to establish a unified regulatory, certification and monitoring system, in which investments in the logistics service sector will be made in a coordinated and more efficient manner.
On the basis of the applications submitted, the Science and Innovation, Technology, Industry and Logistics Park Council will propose the award of the title, under which logistics parks can be classified as intermodal logistics parks, regional logistics parks or local logistics parks.
Today's decision by the council allows for the creation of three new rural industrial parks and the expansion of four other industrial parks, in addition to the 18 logistics park designations.
A further 39 logistics centers are eligible under the legislation for the title of logistics park, bringing the total number of official logistics parks in Hungary to 57.
The logistics sector is a priority for the government, currently accounting for 5% of GDP, but the government aims to increase this to 10%.
