In order to protect birds, E.ON Hungária has laid underground cables to protect the overhead power lines at the Pusztazámor landfill site, the electricity company told MTI on Wednesday.
The area around the landfill in Pest County is a habitat for many bird species, but the investment is also in the interest of the settlements in the region, as branches falling on the power lines often caused power outages – HUF the 20 million development was justified, which, according to the statement, will make both birdlife and the power supply safer. The poles and crossbars that remain unconnected will not be dismantled, allowing the storks to build safe nesting sites on them.
According to earlier information, the power company will spend HUF hundreds of millions on bird protection in 2023 and 2024 to protect nesting and feeding sites.
Last year, the medium-voltage network was rebuilt in the areas of the Kaposvár and Bagola landfills near Nagykanizsa, and more than 3,000 nesting sites for storks were built on the power grid poles, breeding boxes were installed for Saker Falcons, high altitude perches and safety devices were installed, and the power lines were insulated.
