A new temporary exhibition entitled Financial Century - 100 Years of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (‘National Bank of Hungary’) opened on Friday at the bank’s Money Museum and Visitor Center in Budapest.

According to a statement by the museum, the choice of date is not a coincidence, as the law establishing the National Bank of Hungary came into force on April 26, 1924.

The exhibition shows the path that led from the Austrian National Bank to the Austro-Hungarian Bank and then to today's independent central bank. The exhibition gives a tangible insight into the activities and tasks of the National Bank of Hungary (MNB), and visitors can meet the bank's presidents and famous staff members, as well as see artefacts, archive photographs, numismatic treasures and never-before-issued commemorative medal designs. “Digital and static content and interactive elements will be used to bring visitors closer to key events in the history of the economy and finance," the statement said.

The temporary exhibition, which can be visited free of charge and without registration, will be open from April 27 until December 30.

According to the statement, the exhibition is a good complement to the permanent exhibition of the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Center, which also commemorates the beginnings of the Hungarian financial sector, the museum said. The press release also recalled that the MNB 100 national quiz competition was launched on Friday, during which high school and university students can test their knowledge. The questions of the quiz, which will last for six months, are mainly related to the history of the central bank, with economic and financial questions.
