Hungaroring: First Phase of the Renovation Completed

The first phase of the renovation work on the Hungaroring race track east of Budapest has been completed, with a spectacular transformation of the paddock and the spectator area behind the main stand.

According to the website of the facility hosting the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix, the last five months have seen the focus shift from racing machines to construction machinery. Workers have been working at full speed to ensure that those arriving for the F1 race on July 21 can see that the reconstruction, which will last until 2026, has begun.

To meet the deadlines, work was often carried out 24 hours a day, with 400-500 people working on the site at any one time, and a total of 1,500 people working on the project. Four tower cranes and five mobile cranes were used, a total of 390 kilometers of pipelines and 3,200 tons of reinforcing steel were installed, and 1,674 cubic meters of precast reinforced concrete structures and 32,000 cubic meters of concrete were used.

They moved 170,000 cubic meters of earth, completed all the supporting walls of the event area behind the grandstand, which are 450 meters long in total, and built the new staircase leading to the auditorium. The buildings in the lower depot area were demolished and the new paddock, now 8,000 square meters in size, was built. In addition, a large part of the final utility network has been completed and a large area of spectacular landscaping work has been carried out to ensure that the Hungaroring team can host the Hungarian Grand Prix in a fitting setting.
