The Centenary Foundation of Richter Gedeon Plc., a Budapest-based pharmaceutical company, will provide HUF 100 million in grants to public educational institutions for the development of equipment and technical conditions necessary for the teaching of natural sciences, the company told MTI on Monday.

According to the statement, the foundation first published its call for the HUF 100 million budget in December 2023, for which target institutions could submit applications worth a maximum of HUF 10 million specifically for the provision, acquisition and development of infrastructure facilities for science education.

The call for applications received hundreds of valid applications, from which the Foundation's Board of Trustees selected 35 institutions, six in Budapest and at least one institution from each county. Of the grants awarded, 49% will go to secondary schools, 15% to primary schools, 11% to technical schools and 25% to multi-purpose institutions. The Board of Trustees has set out to support not only high-performing institutions but also disadvantaged schools across the country.

The Board of Trustees has given favorable consideration to applications for upgrading science classrooms, repairing fume cupboards, purchasing vacuum pumps and analytical balances, for example.

The promotion of high-quality science education has been at the heart of Richter's support for decades, contributing to the development of the field in many different ways. This new grant reinforces this objective. Richter plans to continue to launch similar calls for support for schools in the future as far as it is able, the statement said.
