STOBAG Group, a leading Swiss manufacturer of sun protection systems, is build-ing its largest production facility in Hungary through a capacity expansion investment supported by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).

As a result of the EUR 21.5 million development, the company’s factory in Sülysáp, southeast of Budapest – in operation for ten years – will be able to increase its annual output from 20,000 to 60,000 shading systems.

In addition to the site’s existing four production halls, a new building complex with five more halls will be constructed, expanding the plant by 10,000 square meters. The project development will elevate the Pest County site above the company’s facilities in Muri, Switzerland, and Burlington, Canada, within its global production network.

Implemented with the support of HIPA, the investment also involves technological upgrades. New surface treatment solutions installed in Sülysáp will enable the production of metal structures for shading systems in any color, based on customer requirements, instead of the previously limited white and grey options. The project also includes the establishment of an automated high-bay warehouse.

Founded in 1964, STOBAG began as a “garage startup” when 30-year-old Ernst Gremaud set up the company’s first workshop in a cider cellar. Still family-owned after more than sixty years, the company – now led by the third generation – has earned multiple design awards for its innovative products that represent the premium segment of the sun and weather protection solutions market.

STOBAG’s core markets are the DACH countries and North America, thus the output of the Sülysáp facility is all destined for export. In addition to its manufacturing activities, STOBAG also engages in digital development in Hungary, with a team based in the capital, Budapest.
