According to data from MAVIR, Hungary's energy management company, the total installed capacity of renewable energy producers in Hungary exceeded 9,000 megawatts by the beginning of September, the Ministry of Energy announced on its official Facebook page on Monday.
Solar systems lead the way with 8,116.5 megawatts, followed by biomass-biogas (444.5), wind (325.1), water (62.49), waste (49.4) and geothermal (2.7).
The capacity of domestic solar power plants reached 8 gigawatts in the summer. The number of household solar panels exceeded 300,000 in the spring. Together with industrial facilities, more than 316,000 systems were producing clean electricity by the beginning of autumn.
According to statistics from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), between 2015 and 2024, Hungary's installed renewable capacity grew at the fastest rate in Europe, increasing more than eightfold.
The ministry emphasized that Hungary is playing a leading role in green energy production and storage. Our country is a world leader in that a quarter of the electricity produced last year came from solar power plants. The government is also supporting the increased use of biogas and geothermal energy, as well as renewable-based district heating, through the Jedlik Ányos Energy Program tenders in order to make further progress, the EM post added.
