In August 2025, the volume of retail trade was 1.9% higher in raw data, or 2.4% higher in calendar adjusted terms, than in the same month of the previous year, the country's Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported this Monday. According to seasonally and calendar adjusted data, the volume of retail sales was 0.8% up on the previous month.
In annual terms, retail sales rose 2.4% when adjusted for calendar year effects. Adjusted food sales climbed 2.3%, non-food sales rose 4.9% and vehicle fuel sales increased 2.2%. Online and mail-order sales volume, which accounted for 7.2% of retail turnover, rose 6.6%.
In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales only rose by 0.8%, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.
In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,735 billion in August. Food sales accounted for 51% of the total, non-food sales for 34% and sales at petrol stations for 15%.
For the period January-August, retail sales rose an adjusted 2.8% and an unadjusted 2.4% from the same period a year earlier. Food sales increased an adjusted 2.7%, non-food sales 4.3% and motor fuel sales 0.7%.
