Construction Output Volume Down in Hungary 15.2% Y-on-Y

Construction output volume, based on raw data went down by 15.2%, and according to calendar-adjusted data was below the previous year’s level by 13.6% in August 2025, the country's Central Statistical Office reports.

Among the main construction groups the construction of buildings lessened by 2.3%, that of civil engineering fell by 34.8%. Based on seasonally and working day adjusted indices construction output lagged behind the July 2025 level by 11.4%.

In August 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year:
Output decreased in both main groups of construction: in the construction of buildings by 2.3%, in civil engineering by 34.8%.

Among the divisions of construction, the construction of buildings declined by 7.3%, civil engineering by 41.2%. Production in specialised construction activities, having the largest weight in construction, decreased by 8.5% year-on-year.

The volume of new contracts concluded surpassed the one year earlier level by 123.1%, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings decreased by 8.0%, those for civil engineering works grew by 245.2%. The increase is due to a new, high value contract for traffic infrastructure development.

The volume of the end-of-August stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 17.7% higher than one year earlier, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings was down by 10.4% and grew by 35.7% for civil engineering works, compared to August 2024.

In the first eight months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year:
Construction output volume decerased by 1.3%.
