Preliminary data show the number of births falling by 10% in October compared with the same month of the previous year, while deaths declined by 6.8%, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Thursday. Altogether, Hungary's population fell below 9.5 million
5,979 children were born in October and 10,333 people died, while the natural decrease in the population was 4,354 people, compared with 4,424 in October 2024.
Altogether 4,149 couples tied the knot in October, up 14% compared with the same month the previous year.

The balance between births and deaths, i.e., natural population decline, was already 42,444 between January and October this year.
