Hungary's MOL expects repairs at its Danube Refinery, following a fire in October, to finish in Q3 2026, the oil and gas company said in an announcement on the website of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

MOL said the time required for repair was "subject to change" as a damage probe was still underway and the timeline for engineering orders and construction work was "mostly based on very first expert-level estimates".

One of three atmospheric vacuum distillation units at the refinery, south of Budapest, was severely damaged in the fire, but other parts of the refinery were unaffected.

"Based on the internal investigation, gross negligence, wilful misconduct or other external impact can be closed out as possible root causes," MOL said.

MOL is insured against technical damage and loss of opportunity and the company's claim is being assessed.

MOL is increasing the processing of semi-finished feedstock, but expects production loss of around 30%, on average. To compensate for that loss and secure fuel supply of its markets, MOL will step up the transfer of products from its Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava and increase third-party imports from the region.
