The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary rose 7.1% year-on-year to 117,510 in January-November, data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) show.
However, the association also noted that the number of registrations remains below pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
Battery electric cars accounted for 16.9% of the market in the first eleven months of the year, which is in line with forecasts for this year, but further growth is needed to maintain a sustainable transition.
Hybrid electric vehicles proved to be the most popular choice among buyers, while plug-in hybrids also continued to grow in popularity.
Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 56% of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 24% and vehicles with diesel engines 11%. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for 8% of sales.
Sales of battery electric vehicles rose 25.7% to 9,820 during the period.
