Preliminary data show the number of births falling in Hungary by 4.9% last December compared with the same month of the previous year, while deaths declined by 7.8%, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday.
Altogether, 6,020 children were born in December 2025 and 10,811 people died, while the natural decrease in the population was 4,791 people, compared with 5,392 in December 2024, KSH data shows.
Altogether 2,271 couples tied the knot in December, up 13% compared with the same month the previous year.
72,000 children were born in 2025, 7.1% fewer than in 2024, while 124,200 people died, 2.6% fewer than a year earlier.
The natural decrease in the population was 52,200 people, up 4.5% on the previous year.
According to the preliminary data, 46,600 couples got married, up 0.1% year on year.
