Retail Sales Rise 4.0% in December

Retail sales in Hungary rose 4.0% year-on-year in December, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday show.

Retail sales rose 3.5% when adjusted for calendar year effects.

Adjusted food sales increased 2.1%, non-food sales climbed 4.3% and vehicle fuel sales rose 1.7%.

Online and mail-order sales volume, which accounted for 9.3% of retail turnover, rose 2.8%.

In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales inched up 0.2%, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.

In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,975 billion in December. Food sales accounted for 49% of the total, non-food sales for 39% and sales at petrol stations for 12%.

For the full year, retail sales rose an unadjusted 2.7% and an adjusted 2.9%. Food sales increased an adjusted 2.5%, non-food sales rose 4.4% and motor fuel sales inched up 0.8%.
