The campaign period for Hungary's April 12 parliamentary elections officially began this Saturday, the National Election Office (NVI) announced. The campaign runs from 50 days before the vote until polling stations close on election day.
The NVI noted that any means capable of influencing voter intent - including posters, direct canvassing by candidates or parties, political advertising, and electioneering - is now permitted. However, official activities by election bodies, individual citizens' personal communication, and the constitutional duties of courts, local governments, and state institutions are not considered part of the campaign.
From this date, candidates and parties may collect nomination signatures at designated election offices. To qualify for a single-member constituency, a candidate must submit at least 500 valid signatures from eligible voters in that district. Voters may nominate multiple candidates but can only sign one nomination per candidate.
