This Friday night, the Office of the Year awards were presented for the sixteenth time at a lively ceremony combined with an exhibition and conference at MOM Sport in Budapest. Winners were announced in numerous categories at this prestigious competition: a professional jury evaluated offices, office buildings, community spaces, and interior design projects. The Special Award for Community Space of the Year went to Time Out Market Budapest, the capital’s newest gastronomic and cultural market.

Time Out Market is the world’s first curated gastronomic and cultural market, whose mission is to showcase a city’s best chefs, restaurants, drinks and cultural experiences all in one place. Opened in September 2025, Time Out Market Budapest – the first market of its kind in the Central and Eastern European region – uniquely combines gastronomy, culture and community in an inspiring, innovative space.

The Market is located on the first floor of the Corvin Palace, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The iconic department store has recently been restored to its original neoclassical splendor. The nearly 2,500-square-meter space features eleven kitchens, three bars, five event venues and approximately 540 seats. The open kitchens, communal tables and ergonomically designed furniture create a cozy, welcoming environment where everyone can easily connect with others. The venue is equally suited for a business lunch, a romantic dinner, a gathering of friends or even collaborative work – making its multifaceted functionality unique in Hungary.

Time Out Market Budapest’s main attraction is undoubtedly its culinary offerings and drink selection, but the experience has much more to offer. Time Out Market’s local experts carefully curate all the programs to ensure everyone can enjoy accessible, high-quality experiences. Every day of the week, the Market offers a variety of concerts, DJ sets, wine tastings, art events, live sports broadcasts and family-friendly programs. These events not only enrich Budapest’s cultural life but also support local artists, creators, and winemakers by providing a platform for them to showcase their work. Most of the events are free, further reinforcing the market’s accessibility to everyone.

“The community-building power of Time Out Market is also evidenced by the fact that many events already have a loyal following: Monday piano evenings, Tuesday jazz concerts and the always sold-out wine tastings all rely on returning guests. Sunday family lunches and children’s programs are particularly popular, bringing together multiple generations around the same table. Friday and Saturday DJ nights, meanwhile, attract a younger crowd, making the Market a true cross-section of the city’s diverse community. “We’re preparing exciting programs for April as well – including an Easter-themed menu, as well as wine and whiskey tastings,” the General Manager of Time Out Market Budapest, Gergely Borsos, said.

Viktor Balogh, owner of Time Out Market Budapest, highlighted that “the goal of our interior design concept was to create a transparent, inspiring and functional space that encourages encounters and longer stays, while the constant activity of chefs behind the open kitchens is an integral part of the Market’s visual experience. Time Out Market Budapest is also actively building Budapest’s international brand: the chefs, artists, musicians and cultural figures featured at the Market all contribute to making the city’s creative energy visible to locals and tourists alike. With every development, we’ve aimed to serve the same goal: by renovating the Corvin Palace and creating Time Out Market Budapest, we want to help Blaha Lujza Square once again become one of Budapest’s premier cultural and gastronomic hubs, competitive even on a European level.”

Adding to that, Olivér Balogh, the other owner of Time Out Market Budapest, said that “our philosophy is that gastronomy and culture together create the experiences that shape communities and leave a lasting impression. We envisioned a place where the city’s best flavors and sounds come together, where creativity and human connection find equal space. The Market is not merely a food- and drink-focused venue: it is a true community space that elevates Budapest’s cultural and gastronomic experiences to a new level. We are extremely proud of this recognition – especially because it was confirmed in the very first months after opening that the Market represents new value and a new standard of quality in Budapest’s community life.“
