The Continental Tobacco Group has opened a finished goods warehouse in Sátoraljaújhely, NE Hungary, covering nearly 4,000 square meters and equipped with modern technology, in the presence of Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The facility is a key component of the large-scale investment program that the Hungarian-owned tobacco group has implemented in recent years. The development significantly expands the company’s logistics capacity, laying the foundation for its further growth and a significant strengthening of its export capabilities.

The finished goods warehouse, completed as part of the development program with a total budget of HUF 14.5 billion, is a key element of the Continental Tobacco Group’s modernization strategy. The program includes real estate development, the procurement of machinery and measuring instruments, the installation of a solar panel system, and the modernization of the tobacco factory’s warehouse technology. The development provides a stable foundation for further strengthening the company’s export capacity: currently, approximately half of Continental’s revenue comes from foreign markets, and the company’s long-term goal is to increase this to as much as 75%.

The new warehouse and office complex consists of a nearly 4,000-sqm, state-of-the-art high-bay warehouse and a 262-sqm service building. The ground floor of the building houses offices, changing rooms, and common areas, while the upper floor features a production hall for the manufacturing and packaging of additional cigarette products. The finished goods warehouse has a capacity of 3,000 pallets and features a 16-station sorting section capable of handling products from 16 packaging machines simultaneously. The finished products are transported from the factory to the new warehouse via an automated conveyor belt, minimizing human intervention and logistical losses.

“Our investment is not just about expanding capacity; it also demonstrates that the Continental Tobacco Group is planning for the long term and is committed to Sátoraljaújhely and the region. A significant portion of the products manufactured by our employees in Sátoraljaújhely is already reaching more than forty countries around the world, and our goal is to further increase export volumes. This ensures that – just as in past decades – we will be able to provide a stable livelihood for the people living here in the future as well,” Zoltán Magyari, the CEO of Continental Tobacco Industry Ltd. is quoted as saying in the statement issued by the company. The operations of the Continental Tobacco Industry Group are closely intertwined with Hungarian agriculture. The company is a stable, reliable buyer of nearly 40% of domestic tobacco production. Thanks to its vertically integrated model, it processes the raw tobacco itself and then sells it as a finished product – thus providing a secure market and predictable income for thousands of growers. The group indirectly provides employment to more than 4,000 people working in tobacco farming in Hungary. For them, tobacco farming is not merely a livelihood but also a legacy spanning generations, the statement says.
