Hungary's government sector had a HUF 1,858 billion deficit in the fourth quarter, equivalent to 8.3% of GDP, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Wednesday show.
Government sector revenue rose 10.8% to HUF 9,955 billion, while expenditures climbed 9.8% to HUF 11,813 billion.
For the full year, the government sector had a deficit of HUF 4,059 billion, equivalent to 4.7% of GDP.
Revenue rose 7.9% to HUF 37,082 billion and expenditures increased 6.7% to HUF 41,141 billion.
Revenue from social insurance contributions climbed 9.2% to HUF 9,242 billion and revenue from taxes on production and imports increased 6.9% to HUF 14,933 billion, including VAT revenue of HUF 8,329 billion, up 11.0%.
On the expenditure side, investment spending fell 6.9% to HUF 3,311 billion and interest expenditures declined 16.6% to HUF 3,311 billion.
Hungary's state debt reached HUF 64,912 billion at end-2025, equivalent to 74.6% of GDP, KSH noted, citing data compiled by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB).
