In the first three months of this year, retail sales of gasoline and diesel in Hungary were up 8.1% and 13.3%, respectively, compared to the same period last year; total fuel consumption thus rose by an average of 11.3%, the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MÁSZ) told MTI on Wednesday.
Total consumption was 980 million liters in the first quarter of the year, of which 369 million liters of gasoline and 611 million liters of diesel fuel were purchased by consumers, according to aggregated data from MÁSZ member companies.
Drivers purchased 302 million liters of 95-octane gasoline, representing a 6.3% year-over-year increase, while 67 million liters of premium gasoline were sold in the first three months of the year, 17.2% more than in the same period last year.
Sales of diesel fuel totaled 548 million liters between January and March this year, an 11.5% increase. Consumption of premium diesel exceeded 63 million liters, representing a 31.9% increase year-over-year.
