In a competition organized by the Hungarian organization Autós Nagykoalíció as well as automotive sites Zöldjárműipar.hu and Járműipar.hu, a jury of automotive journalists selected the BMW iX3 as the Hungarian-manufactured vehicle of the year.
As in previous years, BMW was honored in the seventh season of the Hungarian Car of the Year competition: this year, the BMW iX3, a model manufactured in Debrecen, E Hungary by the Bavarian premium automaker, was named Hungarian Car of the Year, i.e., the vehicle of the year produced in Hungary.
Thirty brands entered a total of 50 models in this year’s competition; 29 vehicles competed for the 2026 Hungarian Car of the Year awards, while seventeen models vied for the 2026 Green Car of the Year honors. The awards were decided by a five-member expert jury, whose members were Gábor Bertalan (AutóSámán), Csongor Biró (Járműipar, Autószektor), Gábor Csordás (Autó és Stílus, player.hu), Péter Gulyás (Magyar Nemzet) and Ferenc László (HVG).
Awards were presented in several categories as part of the competition: Hungarian Car of the Year 2026, Green Car of the Year 2026, People’s Choice Award 2026, and Automotive PR Professional of the Year. Four models manufactured in Hungary were nominated for the Hungarian Car of the Year 2026 title, and the award was won by the Debrecen-manufactured, all-electric BMW iX3. The organizers will hold the awards ceremony on May 29 at the GreenTech 2026 conference.
According to a statement released by the BMW Group, tThe BMW iX3 offers the first glimpse into how BMW envisions the future of mobility: the new electronics and software architecture, featuring four “superbrains” in the form of high-performance computers, makes it smarter and more future-proof than ever before, while “Heart of Joy” technology ensures outstanding driving dynamics and precision, and automated driving systems optimize the interaction between driver and vehicle.
With a range of up to 805 kilometers, a maximum charging power of 400 kW, 469 horsepower and electric all-wheel drive, sets a new standard in efficiency and the “Pure Driving Experience,” while also implementing a holistic approach to sustainability throughout its entire life cycle.
Series production of the BMW iX3 takes place in Debrecen, at the BMW Group’s newest and one of its most innovative manufacturing plants, which relies entirely on renewable energy. In response to strong market demand, a second shift has already been launched at the plant to meet growing customer demand as quickly as possible.
