Heineken® is inviting soccer and table football fans to an extraordinary record attempt on May 16, two weeks before the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest. The goal is for as many people as possible to play together at the country’s largest, 7.2-meter-long foosball table and thereby become 'Foosball Champions', the brewing company says in a statement.
As part of the all-day program taking place in downtown Budapest, in front of the Ferris wheel at Erzsébet Square, Heineken will also bring the Champions League trophy, so participants in the foosball record attempt and their fans can even take photos with the legendary trophy, and the luckiest ones can even win tickets to the Champions League final at the Puskás Arena.
Table soccer is so popular not only because it mimics the world’s most popular sport on a small scale, but also because it has at least as much community-building power and intensity as full-field soccer.
The Foosball Marathon will feature a 7.2-meter-long table where two teams of 11 adventurous players each can test their skills in 5-minute shifts. The event runs until 7:00 p.m. at Erzsébet Square, and after registration, any adult can step up to the table: participants don’t even need to know each other – teams formed spontaneously on-site can play against one another.
But there’s even more to gain from the game: Heineken® aims to set a new record through continuous foosball play and the participants involved. This way, every participant is part of the effort, and by the end of the day, they could become a true champion of a record attempt that is likely unique in the world, supervised and certified by experts from the Hungarian Record Association.
