Industrial Production Up by 6.7% Year-on-Year

The volume of industrial production in Hungary grew by 6.7%, based on working-day adjusted data it rose year-on-year by 3.7% in March 2026, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows.

A production increase occurred in the great majority of the manufacturing subsections. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data industrial output was 3.1% higher than in February 2026.

In March 2026:
The volume of industrial production rose by 6.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the March data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.)

Industrial output – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was above the previous month’s level by 3.1%.

The volume of industrial export was 3.2% higher than a year earlier. The manufacture of transport equipment export, representing a 33% weight within export sales in manufacturing grew by 3.8%, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products export, accounting for a 15% weight, rose by 2.0%.

Domestic sales of industry increased by 3.2%, those of manufacturing went up by 6.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Within industry, production grew by 7.0% in the decisive weight (95%) representing manufacturing, rose by 7.5% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying, and increased by 2.3% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply).

Output volume of the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, having a 26% share in manufacturing, grew by 3.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor vehicles manufacturing increased by 5.6%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles rose by 0.4%.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 12% within manufacturing output, grew – at the highest rate out of the subsections – by 22%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment went up by 69%, at the same time the manufacture of electronic components and boards fell by 9.2%.

The manufacture of electrical equipment, representing a 8.9% weight in manufacturing exceeded by 11.4% the low base level of March 2025. Out of the two largest weight representing groups production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators went up by 34%, the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control rose by 13.6%.

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 12% share in manufacturing, was 9.2% higher than in the same month of the previous year, both export and domestic sales grew.

In January–March 2026, compared to the same period of the previous year:
Industrial production increased by 1.0%. The volume of export sales, representing 64% of all sales rose by 1.5%, domestic sales accounting for 36% of all sales lessened by 2.5%.

Out of the thirteen manufacturing subsections production declined in seven, to the greatest extent, by 25% in the manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products. The output of the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest subsection, decreased by 0.5%. In the other subsections volumes rose between 1.6% and 21%, at the highest rate in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products.
