Every member of the Hungarian team returned with a medal from the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) in Cesenatico, Italy, winning two golds, one silver and one bronze, Eötvös Lóránd University (ELTE) said on Thursday.
The competition, held for the sixth time from May 12 to 18, aims to inspire more girls to pursue careers in informatics by highlighting female role models and the success of competitors.
This year, 218 contestants from 59 countries participated in person, with a further 33 from nine countries competing online.
The Hungarian team prepared at ELTE's Faculty of Informatics, with support from the John von Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT).
Gold medals went to Katalin M. Szabó (10th grade) and Dóra Horváth (12th grade), silver to Vivien Varga (11th grade), and bronze to Linda Szekeres (11th grade). The delegation was led by Ágnes Németh-Erdős, an ELTE lecturer and NJSZT talent management director, with Gyula Horváth, an ELTE associate professor and NJSZT vice president for talent development, serving as deputy.
