The Balaton region has won the International Travel Awards’ “Best Family Destination in Europe” award, which serves as international recognition that Lake Balaton is now one of Europe’s most comprehensive and livable family-friendly tourist destinations, VisitBalaton365 informed MTI on Thursday.
Thanks to the region’s deliberate destination development efforts in recent years, as entered by VisitBalaton365, it has become known on the international tourism market not only as a summer resort but also as a year-round family destination. The award is particularly important feedback on how Lake Balaton is successfully building its four-season tourism offering, the press release stated.
Since 2015, the International Travel Awards have recognized outstanding players in the international travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. It is considered one of the industry’s most prestigious international accolades, honoring high-quality services, innovative solutions, and exceptional guest experiences worldwide.
Winners are selected by an international panel of experts from among the submitted entries. In the 2026 competition, more than 120 entrants from 52 countries participated across various sectors of tourism and hospitality, making the recognition of the Balaton region a remarkable international achievement, organizers noted.
