The Hungarian Chamber of Engineers considers the government's plan to tighten battery manufacturing industry regulations to be professionally sound, the chamber told MTI.

The chamber said the government’s decisions – setting out a national inspection plan, comprehensive inspection of priority facilities, development of a new regulatory concept, and renewal of the environmental liability system – are in line with the professional principles formulated by it.

Consistent enforcement of the "polluter pays" principle, closing legal loopholes, and modernizing the fine system are measures that can strengthen environmental safety and social trust, the chamber added.

They pointed out that all investments in the battery industry must be evaluated based on the entire technological process, the materials used, and the expected environmental impacts.

The chamber said authorization and supervision must be uniform, transparent, based on science and must treat the long-term protection of human health and the environment as a primary consideration.

The Hungarian Chamber of Engineers emphasized that the Hungarian engineering community possesses the expertise and experience to ensure that battery manufacturing is carried out in a regulated, verifiable manner that minimizes environmental impact in any region of Hungary.
