HUF 55 Bn of Grid Upgrades by MVM Electricity Distributors

MVM Démász and MVM Émász, regional electricity distributors of state-owned energy group MVM, have completed HUF 55 billion of grid upgrades, the companies said on Monday.

Half of the investment cost was covered by state funding and the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).

MVM Démász, the distributor for the south of the country, finished HUF 42.9 billion of investments, and MVM Émász , the distributor in the north, completed projects with a value of HUF 12.1 billion.

MVM’s developments have significantly increased the capacity of renewable energy sources – primarily solar power plants – that can be integrated into the grid, while strengthening security of supply and the stability of the electricity system.

They noted that these developments have significantly expanded the capacity of renewable energy sources that can be integrated into the grid, while further strengthening security of supply and the stability of the electricity system.

The two companies’ investments included the development and construction of 132/22 kV substations. In addition, medium-voltage (MV), low-voltage (LV), and digital network upgrades were carried out in the distribution network. As a result of the program, the volume of new solar power generation capacity that can be integrated into the grid increased by 782 MW in the service area of MVM Démász Power Grid Ltd. In the service area of MVM Émász Power Grid Ltd., the volume of new solar power generation capacity that can be integrated into the grid increased by 221 MW.

According to the companies, these developments contribute to the more stable operation of the electricity system, further strengthen security of supply, and promote the expansion of renewable energy sources in Hungary.
