A gauge of sentiment in Hungary's tourism sector stood at -6 in June, on a scale of -100 to +100, improving during the month and reaching one point higher than a year before, economic research institute GKI, and the Hungarian Hospitality Employers' Association (VIMOSZ) said.

Among the subindices, the accommodation index was up 2 points at -3 points, in the catering segment it improved 3 points to -8 points, and in the other tourism segment it was up 7 points at -3 points.

According to the survey, tourism companies plan to increase their workforce over the next three months: in June 2026, the tourism employment expectations index (+6 points) exceeded both the index value for the service sector (0 points) and the national economic average (-1 point), as measured in GKI’s business cycle survey conducted for the EU. It also exceeded the indices for manufacturing (-2 points), trade (-4 points), and construction (-4 points).

In the next three months, compared to the same period last year, 24% of accommodation providers expect an increase, 57% stagnation, and 19% a decline in the number of guest nights. Among catering providers, 29% expect an increase in guest traffic compared to the same period last year, while 51% predict stagnation and 20% a decline.
