Guest Numbers Climb, Guest Nights Edge Lower in May

The number of guests at commercial and private tourism accommodations in Hungary climbed 2.6% to 1,753,000 in May from the same month a year earlier, while the number of guest nights edged down 0.5% to 3,865,000, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) and reviewed by MTI show.

The number of domestic guests rose 4.9% to 898,000, and the number of foreign visitors was up 0.2% at 855,000.

The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased was up 3.0% at 1,837,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors fell 2.0% to 2,028,000.

Visitors from Germany accounted for the largest number of guest nights: 268,900. Visitors from the UK spent 140,600 guest nights and visitors from Poland 123,700.Guest nights spent by travellers from Asia dropped 25.1% to 210,600.

Gross revenue of tourism accommodations rose 8.1% to HUF 113.4 billion.

A total of 27,422 tourism accommodations hosted guests in May, including 24,695 private and other accommodations.

In January-May, the number of guests at tourism accommodations rose 2.0% to 6,492,000. Guest nights edged up 0.2% to 14,674,000.
