Hungary has become a full member of the Friends of the Western Balkans group, Foreign Minister Anita Orbán said in a video message on social media on Saturday.
Hungary was invited to participate at a meeting of the group in Rome on Saturday as an observer, but was asked to become a full member during the course of the talks, the minister said.
She highlighted the importance of Hungary's accession to the group as a neighbor to the Western Balkans and said the countries' European Union integration was the foundation for stability in the region.
Anita Orbán held bilateral talks with her Serbian counterpart at the Hungarian Academy building in Rome. She also discussed strengthening bilateral economic ties with the Italian foreign minister, Antonio Tajani.
At the talks of the foreign ministers, Anita Orbán said the sides acknowledged similar positions on a number of EU topics, including illegal migration.
